Tokyo 1920's Soda Siphon

350.00

Caught between tradition and modernity Tokyo goes through a metamorphosis in the 1970s, influenced by an economic boom and a new view of and focus on the west. At the same time a completely new, modern approach to industrial design emerges – perfectly embodied in our Tokyo Soda Siphon.

Founded in 1912, the Nippon Tansan Gas Company of Tokyo develops a modern Soda Siphon - the first to bear the label “Made in Japan”. The chief engineer of NTG designed and created the Tokyo Soda Siphon in 1975 inspired by both traditional and modern design cues. As a small manufacturer, NTG has been using and maintaining the same machines since the 1970s.

The Tokyo Soda Siphon has been part of an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and was awarded with the “Design of the Year” award by the Wall Street Journal in 2010.
